2019 Aladdin Movie Passes Original Cartoon at Box Office

Washington, With a $7 million at the box office,

Disney’s 2019 version of Aladdin officially passed the 1992 cartoon at

the box office.

At the time, the 1992 version of Aladdin was the highest-grossing

animated film of all time, pulling in $217.4 million in the U.S. and an

incredible $504.1 million worldwide.

As of Friday, 2019’s remake crossed that threshold. In total,

Aladdin (2019) has made $214.9 million domestically and $508 million

worldwide.

Things are much different if we take ticket price inflation into

account, however. We can up the cartoon version’s U.S. total to $472.5

million, which is likely unattainable for the remake.

At the time, Aladdin (1992) was the highest grossing movie of its

year. With competition from behemoths like Avengers: Endgame, that

obviously won’t happen for Aladdin (2019).

Still, the 2019 version will undoubtedly have more longevity than

the cartoon at the box office, so there’s no telling how much it could

gross by the end.

Box Office Mojo forecasts Aladdin (2019) to make $24.8 million

this weekend, which would make it No. 3 at the box office on its third

weekend. It doesn’t appear to have much competition, as The Secret

Life of Pets 2 will struggle to match its predecessor and Dark Phoenix

received poor reviews. Box Office Mojo predicts the former to make $51

million and the latter to accrue $39.2 million.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Rocketman will also likely

take a huge dip. Box Office Mojo predicts the former to pull in $16.7

million this weekend, while the latter to make $16 million.
