56 people killed in Sudan’s armed clashes — Doctors Union

Ongoing armed clashes between Sudanese Army troops and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have resulted in the death of 56 people and injury of 600 others, Sudan Doctors Union said in a statement early on Sunday.

The union said the deaths were civilians, adding that there were dozens of fatalities in the ranks of the security forces. It also revealed that 600 people including security personnel were also wounded in the violence.

However, a large number of people who were wounded in the armed confrontations between the two forces were not taken to hospitals.

The fighting broke out yesterday amid a political stalemate and differences between the two warring sides over various issues such as integration of the paramilitary forces into the armed forces.
