Joint Meeting Held to Review Commodities Status at Local Market

Muscat, A joint meeting was held here today between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the presence Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.

The meeting aims to continuously regulate import and export procedures, in order to ensure the availability of commodities and products in local markets, their quality and price stability. It also aims to follow up the availability of commodities to ensure that supply chains and food security are not affected.

The meeting discussed topics of priority related to food security including a review of the latest developments and the availability of commodities in Oman’s markets particularly wheat, rice and vegetable oils.

The meeting also reviewed mechanisms set to ensure price stability, and the availability of all foodstuffs and goods in all markets across Oman.

The meeting also underscored the importance of opening direct import lines from a number of target markets. During the meeting, the specialists affirmed that the food reserve in Oman was not affected by any changes in the supply chains during the current period. They also confirmed that the commodities are available and sufficient for a period exceeding 6 months.
