German Sports Body Calls On Clubs To Cut Energy Use By 20%

Berlin, The 90,000 sports clubs in Germany should make at least 20% of energy savings in the coming months, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) said today.

The umbrella body for German sports hopes this approach will prevent the outright closure of swimming pools and sports facilities in the wake of the global energy crisis.

The DOSB wants to help clubs save energy with a detailed step-by-step plan.

“Organized sport is making its contribution in this difficult situation and once again assuming social responsibility,” DOSB president Thomas Weikert said in a statement.

At the same time, the DOSB said it would like to have seen support for sports in the third relief package recently launched by the German government.
