Bahrain to present 2nd VNR at High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York

A high-level Bahraini delegation is in New York City to participate in the United Nations High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and present the Kingdom’s second Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the progress made towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 2023 Forum is held under the theme “Accelerating the Recovery from the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and the Full Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels”, and will take place from 10-19 of July at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The delegation includes Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi, Sustainable Development Minister Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chief Executive of Electronic Transformation at the Information and E-Government Authority Dr. Zakareya Ahmed Al Khaja Deputy, in addition to a number of officials.

Bahrain’s second VNR showcases the Kingdom’s progress in implementing the 2030 Agenda since the preparation of the first VNR in 2018, reflecting the steps taken in aligning the Government Plan and other strategic initiatives and programs to the SDGs.

The 2023 Forum focuses on five of the 17 SDGs; these are SDG 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 7 on Clean and Affordable Energy, SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, SDG 11 related to Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 17 on Partnerships to achieve the Goals.
