LMRA receives Thai delegation

The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) received a delegation from the Royal Thai Embassy, at its headquarters in Manama to learn more about Bahrain’s experience and achievements in regulating the Labour Market and efforts in combatting trafficking in persons.

The delegation was briefed on Bahrain’s efforts in developing a stable work environment that preserves the rights of all parties.

??LMRA officials highlighted the Authority’s key projects and initiatives, including the recently launched Labour Registration Programme, which aims to register workers in partnership with the private sector, as well as the Optional Insurance System for Domestic Workers and the Wages Protection System.

??They also shed light on the objectives and key roles of the Protection and Grievances Centre, the first comprehensive and specialised facility of its kind in the Middle East region that provides counseling, legal services, as well as shelter for victims and potential victims of crimes of trafficking in persons.

The meeting discussed ways of enhancing coordination and mutual support in fields of awareness and protection to expat workers in Bahrain.

??The delegation was also briefed on the role of the Regional Centre of Excellence and Capacity Building for Combatting Trafficking in Persons in offering a solid base of trainers who are regionally recognised in the field of combatting trafficking in persons.

The Thai delegation thanked the LMRA for their efforts exerted to regulate and organize the Labour Market as well as noting Bahrain’s success in combatting Trafficking in persons.
