Shura Chairman highlights Bahrain’s human rights strides

Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Shura Council Chairman, has praised Bahrain’s human rights achievements, highlighting the kingdom’s distinguished status and achievements attained thanks to the initiatives and strategic steps launched under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

These achievements, which are the fruitful outcomes of the royal initiatives and strategic plans, have deepened Bahrain’s human rights standing, Al Saleh said.

Al Saleh extended his gratitude to HM the King for HM’s support for consolidating the principles of human rights in Bahrain, making the kingdom an example of peaceful coexistence among all religions and cultures.

He indicated that efforts of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to sustain progress and development in the field of human rights confirm the kingdom’s tireless efforts to make respect for human rights the core of every achievement and success.

The chairman praised the continuous support that the human rights file enjoys from HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, citing HRH’s directives to formulate and implement innovative initiatives and programmes to support human rights at all levels.

Al Saleh made the statements following the issuance of the 2022 European Union (EU) Human Rights Report, which commended Bahrain’s record and cited its key achievements in the field of human rights.

He asserted that the national legislative system has defined the legal foundations and laws that affirm respect for human rights, based on the provisions of the National Action Charter, which stipulates that the legislative branch pays continuous attention to legislation and laws related to human rights, and is keen to ensure that national laws are in harmony with the relevant international charters and instruments ratified by Bahrain.

The legislative branch is keen to highlight the successes achieved by Bahrain in the field of human rights, especially during its participation in regional and international parliamentary forums and conferences, he added.

Al Saleh affirmed that the commendation of Bahrain’s human rights record by international organisations reflect the successful efforts exerted by various official entities and civil organisations in the kingdom.

The Shura Chairman commended the efforts made by the National Human Rights Committee, chaired Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and his Foreign Affairs Ministry to promote national fundamentals and well-established cultural foundations in the field of human rights.
