Information Minister: DAB+ unique leap forward for radio in Bahrain

Dr. Ramzan bin Abdulla Al Noaimi, the Minister of Information, affirmed the ministry’s keenness on keeping pace with technical developments in radio and television broadcasting.

Minister Al Noaimi explained that this will serve the advancement of the media sector and enhance its role in serving the goals of the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The minister said that the launch of the digital audio broadcasting service “DAB+”; as part of the inauguration of the private radio stations building by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, represents a unique leap forward for the radio industry in Bahrain, which has a history of over 80 years.

Dr. Al Noaimi pointed out that the private radio stations building is equipped it with the latest electrical power systems to provide sustainable power supply for all technical equipment and systems.

DAB+ technology, which is considered the third and most modern generation of broadcasting systems, the minister said.

He explained that this project has been implemented in cooperation with leading companies specialised in radio technology, to provide the latest and best equipment and technologies for private radio stations.

The minister said that one of the most prominent features of “DAB+” is the significant saving in transmission costs and the improved quality of the signal, in addition to the easy access to receivers and easy search for radio stations by name rather than frequency.

He explained that this technology would enhance sound quality and clarity, as well as pausing and rewinding streaming from live radio broadcast.
