IAEA discusses prominent nuclear files including Iranian nuclear program


The International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Board of Governors started on Monday its regular quarterly session to discuss several nuclear files, most notably verifying the safety of the Iranian Nuclear program.

The five-day session will discuss a number of sensitive nuclear files, among them is monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran, in light of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution 2231 (2015) and what follows in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons signed with Iran.

The board will also discuss implementing preventative measures for 2023 and applying them in the Republic of North Korea, as well as implementing the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in the Syrian Arab Republic, as said by the media department of the agency in a statement.

Discussions will be held on the nuclear safety in Ukraine, and the matter of transporting nuclear material in accordance with the AUKUS alliance and the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons treaty, as well as restoring equality
between member states in the IAEA. The statement added that the IAEA would consider applications into the agency, in addition to the annual 2023 report and the 2023 technical cooperation report.

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi will hold a press conference on Monday, to respond to journalist’s inquiries about the cooperation between the IAEA and Iran, in relation to the death of the Iranian President, his Foreign Minister, and senior advisors, as well as the safety of Ukrainian nuclear facilities in the ongoing war with Russia.
