OIC welcomes ICJ’s opinion on unlawful Israeli occupation

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed Friday the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) advisory opinion on the unlawful Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

In a press statement, OIC stressed the need to follow-up on the implementation of the ICJ’s advisory opinion, which ruled that Israel’s decades-long occupation and settler-colonialism of the Palestinian territories is “unlawful” and should be brought to an end “as rapidly as possible”.

OIC expressed appreciation for the positions of the states that have supported and joined the ICJ’s procedures to ensure justice and international protection of the Palestinian people and defend the Palestinians’ legitimate rights.

It underlined the need for the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to shoulder its responsibilities and take the procedures necessary to guarantee the implementation of the ICJ’s advisory opinion and bring an end to the unlawful Israeli occupation and settler-colonia
lism of the Palestinian territories.

It called for enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination, including the right to establish its sovereign independent state based on the June 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.

It pledged to pursue its efforts to implement the ICJ’s advisory opinion and hold Israel, the occupying power, accountable for all its violations and crimes against the Palestinian people.
