DIGEN ART PRESENTS: “DIGITAL.ME” – REDEFINING SELF-REPRESENTATION

DiGen Art is proud to announce the new exhibition “Digital.ME”, featuring a curated selection of 11 talented digital artists from Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Iran. Selected from over 50 applicants who participated in an open call launched by the Gallery back in February 2024 under the theme of “Self-Representation”, these artists showcase their creative works in AI art, creative coding, illustration, and animation.

The exhibition features Gaia Azzi (Lebanon), Chris Bitar (Lebanon), Fabin Rasheed (UAE), Gregory Taousson (Lebanon/France), Yasmina Boustani (Lebanon), Zolfaqqari (Iran), Fai Ahmed (Saudi Arabia), Gorilla Sun (Ahmad Moussa) (Lebanon/Germany), Rex (Saudi Arabia), Khaled (Saudi Arabia), and GingerPotter (Lebanon). Each of these artists brings a unique perspective and style to the digital art scene.

The “Digital.ME” exhibition is designed to captivate audiences through a rotating display. Every 10 minutes, three different artists showcase their unique form of digital art on screen.

Alex Rayes,
owner of DiGen Art Gallery, states: “This exhibition aligns with our mission of becoming the leading voice for digital art in the MENA region and a platform for launching and championing artists from our region.”

Self-portraiture has long been a revered genre in art history, providing an intimate glimpse into the minds and cultural landscapes of artists. As our identities increasingly merge with the virtual realm through platforms like Instagram and X, these digital canvases challenge and expand traditional notions of identity, highlighting our experiences, aspirations, and constructed personas.

The artists from the MENA region, with their rich and diverse cultural backgrounds, possess a deep understanding of identity fluidity. They navigate the intricate balance between the cultural norms of their homelands and the adopted customs of their current residences. The “Digital.ME” exhibition explores how digital art serves as a powerful medium for self-expression, enriching our identities in a borderless age.

DiGen Art, short for “Digitally Generated Art” is the first gallery in Lebanon dedicated exclusively to digital art. With a focus on fostering the digital art movement in MENA, DiGen Art conducts extensive research, educates the public, and uplifts emerging artists.

Located in the Hamra District of Beirut, the gallery is a creative space that experiments with new technologies, houses a growing library of relevant books, and hosts engaging events.

The exhibition runs until September 6, 2024.

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday from 11 am to 7 pm and Saturday by appointment.
