Foreign Minister participates in US-led meeting on AI and sustainable development


New York, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a meeting convened by Antony J. Blinken, the US Secretary of State, titled “Advancing Sustainable Development through Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence”, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting was attended by a number of foreign ministers participating in the UNGA, heads of delegations and heads of permanent missions to the United Nations in New York.

In his remarks at the meeting, Blinken focused on the ability of artificial intelligence to find solutions to global development challenges. He emphasised the importance of ensuring the security of artificial intelligence and the necessity of activating AI safely to achieve sustainable development goals.

He also highlighted the significance of promoting AI in partnership with the private sector and building the capacities of nations in AI in a beneficial and secure manner.

The meeting aimed at
leveraging AI and managing its potential risks globally, as well as highlight US efforts to support countries in building their AI ecosystems, how to leverage safe and reliable AI to help achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

The meeting was attended by the Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Ambassador of Bahrain to the US, and Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
