Scientists Work on Building Supercomputer Thousand Times Faster than Current Systems

Japan is set to upgrade its computing capabilities with the development of the Fugaku Next supercomputer, projected to be approximately 1,000 times faster than current systems.

This ambitious project aims to create the world’s first zetta-class supercomputer, capable of reaching speeds at the zettaFLOPS level-1 sextillion (1 followed by 21 zeros) floating-point operations per second.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025, with the goal of bringing Fugaku Next online by 2030.
