Arab housing officials meet in Cairo

The 89th meeting of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction, chaired by Saudi Arabia, kicked off on Wednesday at the HQ of the General Secretariat of the Arab League.

Saudi Arabia’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, chair of the meeting, Abdulrahman Al-Tawil said in his opening speech that the meeting is receiving great attention from Arab leaders and governments, which contributes to meeting the needs of Arab citizens for adequate housing.

Al-Tawil explained that the meeting discusses many topics that shed light on the developments of this sector, its challenges and future prospects, in addition to the benefits of exchanging experiences and expertise in this field.

He stressed that the housing sector receives great attention in Arab countries through developing plans that contribute to raising the level of housing services and optimal utilization of available resources.

The two-day meeting will discuss many topics including the lates
t developments on holding the Eighth Arab Housing Conference, during the period from 17 to 19 December in Algeria, and selecting the theme of Arab Housing Day 2025, as well as cooperation with the UN Human Settlements Program.

The meeting will also discuss progress made in following up on the implementation of the 2030 Global Sustainable Development Plan and the Executive Plan of the Arab Strategy for Housing and Urban Development, and cooperation with relevant Arab, regional and international organizations and Arab federations.

The meeting’s agenda also includes experiences on social housing and pioneering projects in the housing and urban development field, in addition to legislation and laws regulating the housing and construction sector.

Furthermore, it will discuss ways to support Somalia in training cadres in the housing and construction sector and support Yemen in reconstruction, in addition to presenting studies and experiences on the rehabilitation of cities affected by conflicts and Arab lands un
der Israeli occupation and natural disasters, and supporting Palestine to achieve sustainable housing for Palestinians.

Representatives of the member states of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Construction, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Qatar, Comoros, and Morocco, in addition to the General Secretariat of the Arab League will participate in the meeting.
