The National Museum and the Embassy of Italy in Muscat today marked the finale of the 24th edition of the Italian Language Week in the World with a special theatrical performance titled ‘The Faerie Tale of Venice and the Incense Trade Route through Dante Alighieri’s Words.’
The event was held under the patronage of Jamal Hassan Al Moosawi, Secretary General of the National Museum.
During the welcome speech, Al Moosawi emphasized the importance of language as a bridge between cultures and its role in connecting the past, present, and future.
He noted that, ‘Language is more than just a means of communication. It is a vessel that carries culture, history, traditions, and art. Through language, the past is connected to the present and the future. In a rapidly connecting world, languages enhance understanding, tolerance, and cooperation’.
On his turn, Pierluigi D’Elia, Ambassador of Italian Republic to the Sultanate of Oman, highlighted the cross-cultural importance of the performance.
The ambassador said,
‘The Faerie Tale of Venice and the Incense Trade Route is a multi-disciplinary creation that blends photography, literature, and poetry, along with a documentary film, resulting from a collaboration between Italian and Omani professionals. This artistic endeavour not only celebrates the cultural exchange between our countries but also represents a unique opportunity for young Omani poets.’
It is worth noting that the theatrical performance ‘The Faerie Tale of Venice and the Incense Trade Route’ follows the journey of two travellers throughout Oman, inspired by the alluring scent of incense, where the work explores the concept of an ‘ideal journey’ that resonates deeply with both Italian and Omani cultural heritage.
