Arab lawmakers move to collect Israeli occupation war crimes evidence

CAIRO, Efforts are ongoing to collect evidence of war crimes perpetrated by Israeli forces against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, a top Arab lawmaker said on Sunday, urging the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the “genocide” against the Palestinians.

Israeli acts of violence in the Gaza Strip are “flagrant violations” of international laws and conventions, Arab Parliament chief Adel Al-Asoumi was cited as saying in a statement by the legislative wing of the Cairo-based Arab League, in conjunction with the Egyptian parliament’s human rights committee.

Once collected, the evidence will be referred to the UN Security Council and the ICC in a bid to ensure that Israel is “held accountable” for the atrocities its forces are committing, the statement underlined, emphasizing the continued “monitoring” of events in the Gaza Strip by an Arab League committee.

Israel’s “barbaric acts” include the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians through bombardments against healthcare and educational facilities, added the statement, underscoring the continued support for the Palestinians in the face of such violence.

Egyptian lawmaker Tareq Radwan, who heads the aforementioned committee, said the “Israeli transgressions” should be dealt with through a “united Arab stand,” which is crucial to halt the violence and ensure the protection of the Palestinians.
