Arab League denounces Sweden’s permit to burn the Quran

The Arab League on Thursday condemned in the strongest terms the permit granted by Swedish authorities to a radical to set afire a copy of the Muslims’ holy book, the Quran, during the first day of Eid Al-Adha.

Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abulgheit said in a statement, “Governments’ responsibility lies not in encouraging radicalism or being complacent vis a vis those who promote notions of hatred and Islamophobia but in firmly facing such behaviors.

“Disdain of others’ doctrines has nothing to do with the freedom of expression.” The Swedish authorities were slack toward this disdainful act, although everybody is aware that it causes waves of hatred among peoples and adherents of diverse religions, the Arab League chief said, holding the Swedish Government fully responsible for outcomes and repercussions of this denounced event.

An ultra-extremist Swede burned copy of the Quran outside Stockholm’s grand mosque yesterday.
