Blinken vows to empower Ukraine with long-term deterrence

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday on a hitherto unannounced visit to declare a new huge package of aid for Ukraine, affirmed later that Washington planned to supply the nation with all its needs to remain strong.

Washington is committed to supply Ukraine with its needs not only for launching a successful counter offensive but also for acquiring long-term deterrence capacities, Blinken said during a meeting with Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, according to the Russian Itar Tass news agency.

Tass added that Blinken, during a separate meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, that Washington would back up reconstruction and reforms and meet various economic and humanitarian needs for the Ukrainians.

Blinken is expected to spend two days in the embattled country.
