The “Carbon Management Laboratory” was launched by the organisation of the Follow-up Unit for the Implementation of Oman 2040 Vision and the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and in cooperation with the Environment Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. This will run from September 25 to October 13, 2022, in the presence of their Excellencies, and the participation of representatives of government and private stakeholders and a group of academics and experts.

The establishment of this laboratory comes within the framework of preparations for the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, in which the Sultanate of Oman will participate, and to be held in the Arab Republic of Egypt next November.

Purpose of laboratory

The laboratory aims to find a comprehensive national strategy and an operational plan for net zero emissions, in line with development objectives in various sectors. This is in line with the Oman Vision 2040, which aims to create effective, balanced and resilient ecosystems to protect the environment and the sustainability of its natural resources.

It is worth noting that the laboratory will focus on four main sectors, including the energy sector, which includes electricity, oil and gas, the industry sector, the transportation sector, and the cities and buildings sector.
