Civil Defence, First Aid Conference Kicks Off

Muscat, 8 Mar (ONA)— Oman’s Civil Defence and First Aid Conference and Exhibition kicked off today at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

More than 300 participants from Oman and abroad take part in the event, which is organized by the Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (ACDA).

The two-day event highlights the relentless efforts undertaken by Oman in achieving the highest levels of security and safety.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Khamis Saif Al Jabri, Chairman of Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit.

Col. Abdullah Saleh Al Najashi, Director General of the ACDA, said that the event coincides with the International Civil Defence Day, which reflects the appreciation of civil defence authorities’ efforts to protect lives and property. It values the authorities’ contribution to development plans as they address accidents and crises that threaten human life, wealth and the environment.

Col. Al Najashi pointed out that the slogan of International Civil Defence Day 2023 (“Role of Technical Systems in Risk Assessment”) highlights the importance of information technology and its applications in risk management, preparedness and minimization of pertinent loss, as well as evaluation of monitoring systems’ capacity to tackle risks.

The conference’s sessions deal with risk legislations and regulations, risk reduction, the lessons learned from major accidents and best practices and technical applications in the field.

The first day of the event covered seven working papers on various aspects of safety—notably the role of legislation and technical regulations in reducing risks, the integration of risk assessment and emergency operations through technology, harnessing and using artificial intelligence techniques in risk management, and the role of modern technologies in risk management and minimization of impacts of earthquakes.

Meanwhile, the chief guest toured the accompanying exhibition, which showcases security and safety apparatus, civil defence and ambulance equipment, as well as a children’s corner comprising fire extinguishers, fire blankets and first aid and other training equipment.
