Converting Industries Lab to Begin on 2 January

Muscat, Activities of “Converting Industries and Industries of Future Lab” will kick off on 2 January 2023.

The four-week Lab is organized by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in conjunction with Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit and the Industrial Innovation Academy.

The Lab aims to address the challenges facing projects and investment opportunities in the industrial sector, find practical solutions for their implementation, develop solutions to the general challenges facing investment in converting projects, and engage the private sector in studying the challenges facing investment in the converting sector.

This was stated during the press conference that was organized by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion to unveil the Lab’s initiatives, applicable solutions in the converting industries sector and project governance.

Dr. Saleh Said Masan, Undersecretary for Commerce and Industry, said: “The Lab comes to achieve the goals of the industrial sector, improve its performance and raise its contribution to the gross domestic product, and listen to the views of partners and stakeholders to develop solutions and enablers to overcome the challenges facing the sector and explore investment and expansion opportunities.”

In his speech during the press conference, Masan explained that the Lab includes main themes, namely: assessment of the industrial strategy 2040, investment opportunities, governance, solution clinics, and future industries.

Dr. Ayman Abdullah Al Fudhaili, CEO of the Industrial Innovation Academy explained that the governance theme is one of the most important pillars that will take centre stage during the Lab’s activities with the aim to govern the projects and initiatives of the sector through defining responsibilities and tasks and following them up transparently.

He added that supervisory, executive and technical committees have been identified to discuss mechanisms and methods of implementing initiatives and programmes that will come out of the governance them, and how to follow up their execution through feedback.

The converting industries lab, which was held in the first quarter of 2022 dealt with the theme of energy (natural gas, electricity, renewable energy). Outputs of the lab identified priorities of the industrial activities for energy needs and quality of energy networks infrastructure.
