The Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation said Monday the just-ended talks with the Sudanese and Ethiopian negotiators failed to make headway in bridging the differences over the rules of operating the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

“No tangible progress has been made in the two-day round of talks in Cairo because the Ethiopian side dig their heels in,” according to a press release from the Ministry.

Egypt will continue the quest for a legally-binding agreement on the rules of filling the reservoir of the dam and operating it in a way that takes into account Egypt’s right to water security and ensures the interests of the three countries, the statement affirmed.

The ministry called on Ethiopian and Sudan to adopt a mutually acceptable vision for a win-win situation in the coming rounds of talks based on the Declaration of Principles endorsed by the leaders of the three countries in Khartoum, capital of Sudan, in March, 2015.
