Egypt welcomes Jeddah Declaration

Egypt on Friday welcomed the Jeddah Declaration that was adopted by the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) early Friday, as a significant step towards the protection of Sudanese civilians.

The signing of the Jeddah Declaration would contribute to ensuring humanitarian and relief aid access, safeguarding public utilities and facilitating evacuations, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

However, the ministry hoped that the Sudanese warring parties would meet their commitments mentioned in the declaration, leading up to a permanent ceasefire and dialogue, it added.

It commended the efforts of Saudi Arabia and the US in encouraging Sudanese parties to participate in Saudi-US-facilitated talks.

In a document adopted in the Saudi city of Jeddah early Friday, the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) vowed joint commitment to protecting Sudanese civilians.
