Electric Vehicles Possibly Emit More Particle Pollution Than Petrol, Diesel Cars: Study

London: A study by Emission Analytics found unexpected results regarding the possible pollution particles emitted by electric vehicles (EVs).

Published in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, the study suggests that EVs may release more toxic particles into the atmosphere due to wear and tear on brakes and tires.

Contrary to popular belief, EVs, with their heavier weight and synthetic rubber tires, could emit up to 1,850 times more particulate matter from brakes and tires than modern gas-powered vehicles with efficient exhaust filters.

This increase in emissions is attributed to the accelerated deterioration of tires caused by the weight of EVs and their heavier batteries.

The study emphasizes that tire wear emissions from EVs could exceed exhaust emissions from petrol cars by over 400 times, challenging the traditional focus on tailpipe emissions.

As concerns about climate change prompt a shift towards eco-friendly transportation, the findings underscore the need to consider all sources of pollution in assessin
g the environmental impact of EVs
