EWA signs agreement with Etihad Esco

Manama, The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) in Bahrain has announced a partnership agreement with Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad ESCO), a subsidiary of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). The primary objective of this collaboration is the successful implementation of the Kafa’a (efficiency) programme, as a vital step towards establishing an ESCO (Energy Services Company) in Bahrain.

The Kafa’a programme aims to reduce electricity consumption in buildings with high consumption, in the public and private sectors, in partnership with Energy Service Companies (ESCOs).

Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of EWA, reiterated the Authority’s commitment to its strategic plan towards improving energy efficiency and reducing electricity consumption with the aim of reducing its carbon emissions in a way that contributes to achieving carbon neutrality by the year 2060.

The President noted that the Kafa’a programme aims to reduce electricity consumption in high-consumption buildings in the public
and private sectors in the kingdom by benefiting from energy services companies. This will contribute to raising efficiency and reducing consumption.

He added that cooperating with Etihad ESCO will help implement the Kafa’a programme and achieve its goals, adding that the company has 11 years of experience in improving energy efficiency, having implemented a similar programme in hundreds of buildings in Dubai.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of DEWA, expressed appreciation for the partnership with EWA, seeing it as a valuable addition for both entities. He further affirmed that the company would enhance the partnership by providing advisory services to implement energy efficient solutions in buildings, reducing energy costs and supporting EWA’s strategic goals.
