A person was killed and 24 others were injured in a fire that erupted in a Madrid hospital, said Spanish media on Monday.

According to the state-run Spanish Television network citing informed sources, the deceased individual, 68, was a patient in the psychiatric ward.

Investigation are still on going to determine the cause of the fire, which seemingly began late yesterday, the Spanish television added.

Amongst those injured were police officers, rescue and medical staff, in addition to patients.

The fire did not heavily affect the structure of the hospital; however, 17 partients from various wards were evacuated.
