Foreign Affairs Minister meets Arab League Secretary-General


Manama, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, and his accompanying delegation.

The Secretary-General in the Kingdom of Bahrain to participate in the 33rd Arab Summit and the Preparatory Ministerial Meetings of Arab Foreign Ministers and Ministers of Finance and National Economy.

Dr. Al Zayani affirmed the keenness of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to supporrting all efforts to host the Arab Summit.

The minister lauded the efforts exerted by the General Secretariat of the Arab League in cooperation with the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the concerned official bodies, to prepare for the summit and ensure its success.

Dr. Al Zayani affirmed Bahrain’s pride in hosting the summit amidst the difficult circumstances facing the Arab world following the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and its repercussions on regional security and stability.

For his part, Secretary General Aboul Gheit expressed his ple
asure to visit Bahrain to participate in the 33rd Arab Summit, noting the cooperation and coordination in completing the necessary preparations for holding the summit.

He expressed his confidence in the ability of Bahrain to host a successful summit that would result in outcome and decisions that bolster joint Arab action.

The two sides discussed the summit’s programme, the topics to be included on the agenda, the ongoing preparations, and the arrangements made by Bahrain and the General Secretariat of the Arab League to ensure the success of the summit and the achievement of its objectives.

Present at the meeting were Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs; Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, the Bahraini Ambassador to Egypt, and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League; Ambassador Hossam Zaki, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League and Head of the Office of the Secretary-General; senior Foreign Affairs Ministry and
General Secretariat officials.
