Foreign Ministry Organizes Reception to Mark Political Consultations 25th Anniversary between the Sultanate and the Netherlands

The Foreign Ministry held a ceremony at the Royal Opera House Muscat celebrating the 25th anniversary of the political consultations between the Sultanate and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The event was sponsored by Sayyida Dr. Mona bint Fahd al- Said, Assistant Vice- Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University for International Cooperation.

Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al- Busaidi, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry, delivered a speech in which he said that the Omani-Dutch relations date back to four centuries ago, noting that these relations took another step in the twentieth century, especially with the flourishing of oil trade and the emergence of the role of education, in addition to the fruitful cooperation in various fields, indicating the existence of a strategic partnership between the Sultanate and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, between the ports of the two countries, especially between the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands and the port of Sohar in the Sultanate.

For her part, Johanna Marie Brandt, Secretary-General of the Netherlands Foreign Ministry, affirmed in a speech the depth of bilateral relations between the Sultanate and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, describing these relations as “strong and powerful.”

She added that the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the political consultations between the Sultanate and the Kingdom of the Netherlands is part of the ancient history of the bilateral relations between the two countries, which dates back to nearly 400 years when establishing the first bilateral trade, expressing its happiness for fruitful and positive meetings between the two friendly countries.

The ceremony included a photographic exhibition of the fields of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, a presentation of the depth of the historical relations and the areas of partnership between them. Musicians from the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra participated in the ceremony.

The ceremony comes in conjunction with the 25th session of consultations held this morning at the Foreign Ministry in Muscat, which is one of the active mechanisms that contributed to the development of relations between the two countries.

The ceremony was attended by a number of ministers, undersecretaries, a number of accredited ambassadors, businessmen and representatives of Dutch companies and institutions.
