French pres,. visits Annecy victims

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, visited Friday the victims of a knife attack in the French city of Annecy, southeast France.

Macron and his wife visited Annecy Hospital where an elderly man, who was seriously wounded in the attack in the Alps, BFM TV channel said.

Macron then headed to Grenoble Hospital where three injured children are receiving treatment, and met their relatives, it added. Macron wanted to visit not just the victims but “everyone who has contributed in helping and supporting them”, it noted.

After visiting the victims, Macron went to meet the police and caregivers as well as members of the judicial police.

Meanwhile, Annecy prosecution office announced, on Twitter, extending detention of the accused, a 31-year-old Syrian citizen.

It added that he is unknown to any intelligence service, neither in France nor abroad, and has no documented mental disorders.

On Thursday, authorities in France declared that seven people, including six children, were injured in the attack in a park near Annecy in the Alps.
