Dozens of people in the Gaza Strip participated, on Monday, in a solidarity stand with Morocco against the backdrop of the earthquake that struck the country, causing the death and injury of thousands.
Participants in the protest, which was organized by the Moroccan community in Palestine in cooperation with the Press House – Palestine Foundation (non-governmental) in Gaza City, raised the Moroccan and Palestinian flags, and banners expressing their solidarity with those affected.
Bilal Jadallah, Director of the Foundation, said in a speech on the sidelines of the protest: “We stand to express our solidarity with the Moroccan people, following the painful earthquake that struck their country.”
He added: “We offer our condolences to the Moroccan people and King Mohammed VI of Morocco. We express the solidarity of the Palestinian people with the Moroccan people. We wish mercy for the deaths and a speedy recovery for the wounded.”
For his part, Ahmed Al-Mughrabi, spokesman for the Moroccan community in Palestine, said in a separate speech: “We extend our condolences to our people in Morocco, King Mohammed VI and the families of the victims due to the earthquake disaster.”
He pointed out that the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are “ready to send a medical delegation to assist the Moroccan people.”
Earlier today, Morocco announced that the death toll from the earthquake had reached 2,681 deaths and 2,501 injured, which is not a final statistic.
On Friday evening, an earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter in the Al Haouz region, struck several Moroccan cities, such as the capital, Rabat, Casablanca (the largest cities in the country), Meknes, Fez, Marrakesh, Agadir, and Taroudant, according to the National Institute of Geophysics
