GCC chief welcomes Yemen’s de-escalation deal


Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Al-Budaiwi welcomed on Wednesday the announcement by UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg of a de-escalation agreement between the Yemeni legitimate government and Houthis regarding the country’s banking sector and airways.

In a press release, al-Budaiwi expressed the GCC’s backing to all international and regional, and Grundberg’s efforts for peace and security in Yemen.

Issuing such an announcement stressed that the international community is paying much attention to Yemen’s crisis, he said.

The GCC chief expressed hope that this move would create atmosphere for Yemeni parties to start the UN-brokered political process to reach a comprehensive political solution in order to achieve stability and security in Yemen and its people.

He renewed the GCC’s full support to Yemen, and its government and people, affirming eagerness of encouraging all de-escalation efforts and maintaining calm to reach the desired peace.

Under
the deal, Yemeni flights will resume between Sanaa and Jordan, and they will reach three daily. In addition, flights to Cairo and India will begin daily or as needed.
