GCC Countries, Jordan Discuss Cooperation in Health Areas

Muscat, The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Health (MOH) took part today in the third coordination meeting between the GCC countries and Jordan in the field of public health.

The virtual meeting aimed at promoting relations of cooperation and partnership among the GCC, and the active countries, regional and international organizations.

It also aimed to complete the implementation of joint action plans and what has been agreed upon at the working groups and joint committees formed for this purpose, as well as to update the detailed plans of the working group.

The meeting touched on several topics, including human resources, research, studies, training and development, in addition to exchange of expertise and information in the field of primary health care including scientific evidence and operational plans, along with sharing best practices in the field of communicable diseases surveillance.

It also covered the efforts exerted in confronting COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of vaccination programs, polio, measles, tuberculosis and AIDS. Exchange of expertise and information in the field of prevention of non-communicable diseases was also discussed.

Moreover, the meeting discussed means of strengthening health systems such as regulations and laws of health profession licensing, exchange information in the field of health legislation, universal health insurance and best practices in the areas of promoting health care.

The meeting also highlighted ways of exchanging expertise in the field of information and electronic health applications, exchange of information in policies, procedures and standards for patient safety and risk assessment, as well as exchange of experiences with regard to environmental health and food safety.

Dr. Hamad al-Balushi, Health Systems Development Advisor and Dr. Jumana Al-Abdwani, Director of Foreign Relations and Organizations from MOH participated in the meeting.
