Germany’s Electricity Supply Secure for Winter: Chancellor

Berlin, The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the nation’s electricity supply is secure despite the international energy crisis.

Scholz added that the government will ensure the remaining nuclear plants will be able to operate until March of next year, to prevent power shortages, in comments to an employers’ convention.

His comments came after Economy Minister Robert Habeck suggested two nuclear plants, Isar 2 and Neckarwestheim, would remain on standby until mid-April.

Scholz also emphasized that more liquefied natural gas terminals are being built in northern Germany. “The first of these will be ready to start operating in January of the coming year,” he said.
