GFOW Organizes Workshop on Combating Human Trafficking

Muscat, Acting in cooperation with the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, the General FederationofOmanWorkers (GFOW) held a training workshop at the Diplomatic Club (Al Khuwair) on ways of empowering representatives of labour unions and enabling them to curb human trafficking at business organisations.

The workshop lays emphasis on practices of abusive nature that might be committed by some sectors of the private sector, said Nabhan Ahmed Al Battashi,GFOW Chairman. In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), Al Battashi stressed the importance of the workshop and affirmed that GFOW keeps a tap on business organisations and addresses malpractices listed among human trafficking offences.

The workshop reflects the attention accorded to the issue of human trafficking by the Omani government and recognizes the role and specialties of GFOW in sponsoring the wellbeing of workers and establishing a valid environment for business that achieves stability at the workplace.

The workshop covers four main themes, which are “basics of human trafficking”, “reporting human trafficking”, “indicators of human trafficking” and “applications of human trafficking”.
