Health Minister Receives Director General of WHO

Muscat, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health, received here today Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), as part of the official visit of Dr. Ghebreyesus to the Sultanate.

Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Ghebreyesus reviewed the epidemiological situation in Oman and efforts made by the Sultanate to tackle Covid-19 pandemic, following the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik.

Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Ghebreyesus discussed the comprehensive Covid-19 control strategy which integrates efforts of government departments, enhanced by the awareness of citizens and residents.

Dr. Ahmed spoke in detail about measures implemented by Oman to curb the spread of Covid-19, including the National Immunization Campaign. He lauded the great role of the WHO in leading the fight against Covid-19.

The two sides explored various aspects of cooperation, laying emphasis on partnership among health sectors in the government to overcome challenges posed by diseases to the health of mankind.

The meeting was attended by WHO’s Middle East Regional Director Dr. Ahmed Alim Al Mandhari, Dr. John Jabbour, WHO Representative to Oman, and a number of officials at the Health Ministry.
