Health Ministry to Localize Heart Transplant Services in Oman

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has initiated preparations to localize the “heart transplant services” as part of the National Organ Transplant Program from 2023 to 2025.

In this context, the technical committee for heart transplantation in the National Organ Transplant Program held today its first meeting under the chairmanship of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.

The meeting aimed to prepare for the initiation of heart transplant operations in Oman. It involved discussing the necessary medical and surgical equipment, and the human resources required for these procedures, and starting to create national waiting lists for patients with heart failure.

Dr. Ahmed Said Al Busaidi, Director of the National Organ Transplant Program, explained that the preparation to localize heart transplant services is part of the country’s efforts to enhance and develop the healthcare services provided to citizens. This initiative aims to provide all available means and solutions to save the lives of patients suffering
from organ failure, thereby improving community health, individual well-being, and overall quality of life.

It is worth mentioning that the National Organ Transplant Program has activated the option for heart donation after death through the Ministry of Health’s Shifa application.
