HH Sayyid Bilarab Opens Al Teeb City in Liwa

Liwa, As part of celebrations marking the 52nd National Day, HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said presided over the opening of Madinat Al Teeb Model City in the Wilayat of Liwa, North Al Batinah Governorate.

The project also represents the approach of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning towards the construction of sustainable and sociable model cities in Oman.

The naming of the city stems from the Royal directives of His Majesty the Sultan. Madinat Al Teeb (or city of fragrance) consists of 1,300 single and double residential units provided with all sorts of public services and utilities. It was designed to accommodate a total of 3,400 units in future.

The opening ceremony included artistic performances portraying the harmony of Oman—the land and the people, and a visual presentation of the city, its constituent elements and its architectural designs that reflect social, environmental and economic dimensions. The display also depicts the urban planning model catering to the needs of cities now and in future.

This was followed by a full-swing inauguration of the city as a model showcasing integrated planning.

Madinat Al Teeb constitutes a qualitative shift forward in urban planning of sustainable cities that respond to the aspirations of society. It also fits with Oman Vision 2040.

The city covers an area of 12 million sqm and it lies in the vicinity of Al Batinah Expressway. It accommodates 30,000 residents.

The city was planned in response to the Royal orders of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said to provide appropriate accommodations for local citizens whose properties were affected by the Port of Sohar project. The Royal orders were specifically cited under Royal Decree No. 52/2013 stating that all infrastructure services and facilities be provided for the city’s residents.

The opening ceremony was attended by some Royal family members, ministers and top officials, governors, walis, members of the Shura Council and local dignitaries. Ends/bishara/AH
