HH Sayyid Fahd Receives WHO Director General

Muscat, On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Fahd Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers received here today Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO Director General is currently visiting the Sultanate of Oman to attend the 3rd Global High-level Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance, held on 24 and 25 November 2022.

Dr. Tedros expressed his sincere sentiments and best wishes of success to Oman’s leadership and government.

HH Sayyid Fahd expressed the Sultanate of Oman’s appreciation to the role of the WHO in enhancing communication and providing top-notch services. He also underscored Oman’s backing of countries’ policies in the health field.

HH Sayyid Fahd affirmed that Oman accords attention to providing all necessary means to ensure the health of citizens and residents alike. He also lauded the Ministry of Health’s role in implementing programmes on protection against diseases and antimicrobial resistance.

The two sides reviewed means of enhancing cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Health, and the WHO in fields of healthcare, treatment services and controlling diseases. They also reiterated the importance of exchanging expertise.

In his turn, the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) expressed the WHO’s appreciation for the efforts exerted by Oman in developing health services which positions it at a prominent rank in the health field. He also lauded the care and attention accorded to Omani citizens within the framework of sustainable development.

He added that the WHO is willing to provide the Sultanate of Oman with its expertise and capabilities in the health field.

Moreover, the meeting was attended by Sheikh Al Fadhil Mohammed Al Harthy, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers and Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.
