Higher Education Ministry, WIPO Review Areas of Cooperation in Intellectual Property

Muscat, Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation met here today with Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed areas of joint cooperation in the field of intellectual property. They also touched on means of support extended by WIPO to establish a specialized institute for intellectual property under the Ministry’s supervision.

In addition, they also highlighted WIPO’s support for training people concerned in the field of intellectual property in Oman, including students, researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs.

The Director General of WIPO underscored the vital role of intellectual property in developing the world’s economy and driving a knowledge-based economy.

On her turn, the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation encouraged providing support to universities that plan to offer programmes related to intellectual property.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Saif Abdullah Al Hadabi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Research and Innovation and Eng. Khalid Hamoud Al Hinai, Head of the patents and industrial designs department at the National Office for Intellectual Property. It was also attended by officials from both sides.
