Manama, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa today deputised His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), to attend the closing ceremony of the sixth edition of the “Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season”.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, SCYS First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, also attended the ceremony, organised today by the Bahrain Inherited Traditional Sports Committee (Mawrooth), at the outdoor arena of the Bahrain National Museum.

The National Anthem was played, some Holy Quran verses were recited and a welcoming speech was delivered.

The stages of the sixth “Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season”, which had started in August, were reviewed, and the importance of the event in highlighting the kingdom’s inherited traditional heritage, making it an important regional centre for pearl fishing, were affirmed.

HH Shaikh Nasser watched the contests over HM the King’s cups for the rowing race of the 30-foot heritage boats, for 3000 metres, and the joint Gulf race of the traditional 22-foot sailing boats, which was co-organised by the Bahrain Inherited Traditional Sports Committee and the UAE-based Al-Udeid Marine Sports Club.

HH Shaikh Nasser also attended the freediving competition without using modern equipment for professionals, and the open water swimming contest for over-40 contestants.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Fattan Al Rumaithi, the Chairman of the UAE Al-Udeid Marine Sports Club presented HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad with a commemorative gift.

HH Shaikh Nasser then crowned the winners of all competitions, and congratulated all the participants for the distinguished level they had showcased.

His Highness affirmed that HM the King’s directives to preserve the national heritage are a beacon for Bahraini youth to revive their heritage and preserve their authentic identity.

HH Shaikh Nasser extended thanks and appreciation to HM the King for patronising the annual Marine Heritage Season finale, noting that the royal support encourages Bahraini youth to engage in the heritage events organised by the Mawrooth Committee.
