IAEA to discuss Iran’s nuclear dossier Monday

The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will discuss, on Monday, several nuclear dossiers, topped with the verification and monitoring operations in Iran, in light of its recent agreement with the agency by using cameras to monitor Iranian nuclear sites.

The board, which is the agency’s highest executive political body, said in a statement that it is scheduled to consider the agency’s latest report on verifying and monitoring action in Iran, in light of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) and the agency’s report on the extent of Iran’s commitments to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

The agency revealed this week that Iran exceeded the ceiling allowed on storing enriched uranium by more than 23 times, in violation of the provisions of the nuclear agreement signed between it and the six major powers in 2015 in Vienna.

According to two secret reports distributed by the agency from its headquarters in Vienna, Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium has reached about 4744.5 kg on May 13, while the allowable ceiling is 202.8 kg.

The board will also deal with some other topics like implementing safeguards in North Korea, in addition to the implementation of the safeguards agreement of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in Syria as well as others.
