IAEA Validates Fukushima Treated Water Discharge Adherence to Safety Standards

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has declared Japan’s release of treated radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea as compliant with international safety standards.

In its first full report since the water release commenced last summer, the IAEA’s task force, including officials and experts from 11 countries, reviewed facilities and engaged with stakeholders.

Japan views the wastewater disposal as a crucial step in decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi power plant, which suffered nuclear meltdowns in 2011.
