Impacts of Current Weather Condition in Oman to Continue Till Next Week

Muscat, 7 Jul (ONA)—The Wilayat of Al Hamra in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate registered the largest volume of rainfall (90mm) from the current deep depression that formed in India, according to the readings of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources’ station in the wilayat.

Abdullah Rashid Al Khadhouri from the Directorate General of Meteorology, said that Oman continues to undergo the impacts of the precipitation, with intermittent heavy rains and strong winds reported today in different governorates, including Al Wusta and parts of Dhofar.

Al Khadhouri added that the impacts are expected to continue tomorrow and the day after (Firday and Saturday), with rainfall likely to range from 20mm to 80 mm.

The impacts are will spread over the Governorate of North Al Batinah, as clouds are expected to pour over from the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Oman and cover Al Hajar mountains and adjoining governorates and the plains beyond in Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates, said Al Khadhouri.

He pointed out that indicators point to the probability of the depression persisting on the second and third days of Eid Al Adha (Sunday, Monday), subsiding gradually from Tuesday onwards.

Al Kahdhouri added that the Directorate General of Meteorology registered high volumes of rainfall—ranging between 40mm and 50mm—from many wilayats of the North Al Batinah Governorate. He explained that, generally, the intermittent rains focus on the north of the Sultanate and mountainous areas.

The Governorate of Muscat experienced sporadic heavy rains, which fall in the Wilayat of Al Amerat and that the impacts spread over to the mountain strip till the Wilayat of Sur (A’Sharqiyah) and the goverorates of A’Dakhiliyah, A’Dhahirah, Al Buraimi and South Al Batinah. The rains are like to become more intense over the hours of the evening, along with active flow of local clouds over Al Hajar mountains, leading to intermittent rains accompanied with pellets of hail and strong winds. The wilayats of Maqshan, Thamrait and Al Mazyouna in the Governorate of Dhofar may be overcast by clouds, said Al Khadhouri, who urged citizens and residents to avoid taking risks by crossing wadis or allowing their children to play in rainwater ponds. He also requested all to follow up weather alerts.
