International Affairs Department Head Meets GCC Regional Representative of UNHCR
Sheikh Humaid bin Ali al- Ma’ani, Head of
the International Affairs Department in the Foreign Ministry today meet
with Khaled Khalifa, Regional Representative of the United Nations
High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the GCC countries.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed aspects of the existing
cooperation between the Sultanate and the UNHCR in light of the
latest situations in the region and the world, which are witnessing an
increase influx of migrants and refugees due to wars and ethnic
conflicts.
The meeting also touched on the maritime search and rescue issue
and its causes, as well as the exploitation and risks that refugees face,
in addition to disusing ways of finding coordinated solutions among
various stakeholders in order to address this dangerous phenomenon.
On his turn, Sheikh al-Ma’ani affirmed that the Sultanate is
committed to the international humanitarian law according to this
approach and to strengthen its national duty in providing helps for the
refugees via Oman Charitable Organization (OCO).
The meeting was attended by Hajir Moosa, Senior Official of
Regional Foreign Relations, Ali Abu Hanish, Senior Official of
Administrative Affairs and Regional Programs in the UNCHR.
