Justice Minister attends 15th session of OIC


Banjul, Nawaf bin Mohammed Al Maawda, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Affairs, participated in the ministerial meeting at the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference, held under the theme’Enhancing Unity and solidarity through dialogue for Sustainable Development,’ held in Gambia on May 2-3.

In his speech at the meeting, Al Maawda conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, and Prime Minister, to Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of Gambia.

The minister praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its role during its presidency of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the previous session.

He commended the efforts of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in providing services to pilgrims during the Hajj season.

On sustainable development, the minister attributed Bahrain’s progress towards the 2030
Sustainable Development Goals to the comprehensive development process led by HM the King and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, focusing on sustainability, competitiveness, and fairness.

He highlighted Bahrain’s support for least developed countries, particularly Muslim nations, through various cooperation projects under the South-South framework. The minister reaffirmed the support Bahrain for Islamic causes, particularly emphasising solidarity with the Palestinian cause within the OIC.

The Minister reiterated Bahrain’s support for the Palestinian cause, calling for increased diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in Gaza per international law and humanitarian principles.

He underscored the support for the Palestinian people’s right to an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and full UN membership as a sovereign nation. The summit resolution on Palestine and Al Quds Al Shareef reaffirmed the centrality of the cause to OIC countries, urging the international community to bring an end to the co
nflict in Gaza.

The summit reviewed OIC committee reports, adopted the Banjul Declaration, and addressed economic, humanitarian, social, and cultural challenges, Islamic communities in non-member countries, combating hate speech and Islamophobia, and promoting inter-civilisational dialogue.”
