“Kashef” and the Media Development Center sign an agreement to develop an observatory concerned with officials’ statements

The Palestinian Observatory for Media Verification and Education – Kashif, and the Media Development Center at Birzeit University signed an agreement to develop standards for monitoring political statements by officials for verification, to build an index that shows the Palestinian public the extent of the credibility of officials’ statements and the fulfillment of government decisions and candidates’ electoral promises.

The agreement comes within the framework of building a well-thought-out and clear methodology for creating the credibility index, which includes an analysis of reality and consultative sessions with journalists, experts and academics to develop monitoring and verification standards.

In turn, Director of the Media Development Center, Buthaina Al-Sumairi, welcomed the agreement, and saw it as an opportunity for effective community cooperation with the Kashif Observatory, explaining that this project is considered the first of its kind in the region, and will have an important impact in the world of accountability and follow-up on statements and promises from decision-makers.

For her part, Director of the Kashif Observatory, Reham Abu Aita, said: These standards will form the basis for the work of the credibility index that will be launched next year, as work on the observatory will be conducted based on a clear methodology for the staff and the public, explaining how to choose the personalities who will be under monitoring, and how to verify their statements and promises. Electoral elections, Abu Aita added: “We will cooperate with many civil society organizations and journalists while working on this indicator, which we hope will in the future be a reference for citizens and researchers regarding the extent of the credibility of officials and decision-makers on the one hand, and their fulfillment of their promises and implementation of the decisions they announce in the public space on the other hand.” Other
