Kuwait reaffirms support to UN Libya mission

Kuwait Ambassador to Libya Zyad Al-Mishaan said Friday the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) plays a significant and central role in setting the stage for presidential and legislative elections the North African Arab country.

The Kuwaiti diplomat, who had a meeting in Tunis with Abdoulaye Bathily – the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya and Head of UNSMIL, said he convoyed to Bathily the regards of Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

“The UNSMIL makes painstaking efforts to facilitate holding the general elections in, and preserve the territorial unity and sovereignty of, Libya,” Al-Mishaan said in statements to KUNA.

He reaffirmed Kuwait’s supportive stance towards all efforts meant to restore security and stability in Libya and meet the aspirations of the Libyan people for peace, development and prosperity.

He added that the talks with Bathily dealt with the latest developments in the political and security situations in Libya and the progress towards holding the presidential and legislative elections.
