Legal Expert: The Constitution Did Not Specify The Gender Of The Candidate For The Post Of PM

Baghdad Legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi said that the constitution did not specify the gender of the candidate for the post of Prime Minister in Iraq.

Al-Tamimi added in a statement that the Iraqi constitution did not specify the gender of the candidate in the majority bloc mentioned in Article 76.

He also explained that Article 14 of the Constitution equalized between women and men in rights and privileges, as well as Article 16 of the Constitution supported that in terms of equal opportunities, and therefore there is no legal impediment in the relevant laws preventing a woman from becoming prime minister.

He pointed out that the institutions is to govern in parliamentary systems not the Prime Minister alone, as in Merkel of Germany, and Indira Gandhi of India.
