Muscat, The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) participated in the Fifth session of the Government Forum for Combating Human Trafficking in the Middle East 2024, held in Muscat under the theme “Combating Human Trafficking through Legislation and Work Procedures.”
Nibras Taleb, CEO of LMRA and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, affirmed that since its inception in 2019, the forum has become a key annual regional platform to review and shape a combined vision for developing innovative solutions with realistic approaches.
He highlighted that the Kingdom’s firm stance against the crime of persons trafficking, in all its forms, was underpinned by religious principles, moral culture, and an advanced constitutional, legal, and legislative system. He added that endorsing legislation was not sufficient unless it was accompanied by a procedural system capable of enforcing that legislation in practice.
Talib said that Bahrain’s efforts to counter trafficking in persons include
d developing protection mechanisms alongside providing protection and justice to victims and potential victims.
The LMRA CEO emphasised the need to constantly review procedures to ensure their sustainability and effectiveness. He added that there were many challenges that required legislative and procedural action to clamp down on the crime of human trafficking and blocking its supply chains. In this regard, he affirmed the importance of the role of the private sector as a key partner these efforts.
LMRA Deputy CEO for Enforcement and Protection Noora Isa Mubarak participated in a panel discussion in which she outlined the kingdom’s efforts to counter trafficking in persons.
Participants in the forum included ministers, heads, and members from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, with the Kingdom representing the Permanent General Secretariat. Other participants included representatives from Egypt, Jordan, the GCC General Secretariat, the League of Arab States, the United Nations Office on Drugs and C
rime, US Department of State, the African Union, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
