A major bridge in the US state of Maryland collapsed after a container ship collided with it early today.
The 2.7 km Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed after the ship crashed into a support pylon, causing the collapse of the bridge into the Patapsco River.

Authorities concerned have opened investigations into the cause of the collision. Rescue crews are searching for at least seven people in the Patapsco River after multiple vehicles fell into the water when the bridge collapsed, said director of communications for the Baltimore Fire Department Kevin Cartwright.
